Extension Disclosure
Browser plug-ins or extensions can be very useful tools since they enable more robust communication between a web application and a user and allow the application to do things that can’t otherwise be done.
In the case of NewsBasis, the use of the browser extension allows us to notify you automatically when you view a page where another company or journalist has provided a correction or point of view that might be of interest to you. The extension also enables the annotation capabilities on each page that allow you to make your own corrections, provide a point of view, or create a private note for research of a topic or other reason.
To do this, your browser will automatically check if there is a match between the url you are viewing and the NewsBasis database of corrections, points of view or private notes. If there is a match, we send that information to your browser to be viewed by you. As a matter of policy, we do not retain any information that links you to the url that is being checked, so there is no way for us, or anyone who has access to our systems, to know where you have been browsing on the web.
Our litmus test for your privacy is this: even if the proverbial jackbooted thugs broke into our humble South Park, San Francisco offices and put guns to our heads, we couldn’t tell them where you have been browsing.
